Lever Locks: Major Manufacturing continues to develop and market new products designed for the Professional Locksmith. Our popular HIT (Hardware Installation Tool) series jigs and tools are so effective, in fact, that some door manufacturers have started using them to ensure standardization on all their manufactured doors - quite a compliment to the Series' durability and accuracy.
All members of the HIT family are machined from 6061 aluminum with hardened steel drill guides, and each tool is powdercoated a specific color for quick identification. The HIT series is designed specifically to retrofit existing locks for ADA compliance. Most HIT series tools can be used to retrofit more than one manufacturer's lock, and they are among the only tools currently available that use the existing crossbore to ensure accuracy in drilling for both the anchor plate lugs and throughbolts. In addition, throughbolts can be drilled in one easy step because the HIT's backplate protects the door from splintering!
All HIT jigs attach to the door and permit easy location of all drill points; the throughbolt holes and anchor plate lugs can then be quickly and accurately drilled, sparing you the usual laborious measuring and recalculating of hole locations.
New ADA laws have generated a good amount of work in the retrofit market - the HIT tools allow you to accomplish changeouts with a minimum of labor and investment (each HIT tool is compatible with a number of manufacturers without expensive additional parts or time consuming adjustments). Use our compatibility chart to determine the HIT that will work for you.
The use of our HIT Series Installation Tools on doors with a 2-3/8" backset may be accomplished the following way. Mount the tool to the door as usual (the HIT Tool will overhang the door edge 3/8"). Next with the use of a combination square, square the tool to the door and tighten the allen bolt. The tool is now in proper alignment for use.
